Teagasc Awarded Funding for Consumer Research on Diet and Health
The Food Market Research Unit (FMRU) of AFRC has been awarded funding from two different sources to develop their research programme to better understand consumer behaviour in relation to food and health. It is part of a consortium that was awarded €5 million by the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, under their FIRM programme, for the development of food consumption databases. As part of this they will conduct an attitudinal survey of 1,500 adults. It has also been awarded funding under the Health Research Board to examine existing databases to measure of economic changes and their impact on food expenditure and food choice over the last 10 to 15 years. This research will help food companies make the healthy choice the easy choice for consumers through new product development, and also support the development of health policies.
