Research

Our mandate is the development of the food industry by the application of science and technology

The purpose of the research programme is to generate a fundamental scientific understanding of food and its contaminants, and to apply this knowledge to innovations in food manufacture and marketing.

The use of inter-institution research projects will be prioritised to increase critical mass and strengthen basic research. Such projects will draw on the specialist skills that exist in Irish and European institutions, including UCD and the Moorepark Foods Research Centre, to achieve major research outputs from the collaborative efforts within multidisciplinary project teams.

Research projects are intended to create usable technology, and all research proposals will address mechanisms of technology transfer to end users. The industrial relevance of the research will be increased by having industry partners involved on projects.
