Food Legislation (FETAC)
Why Attend
Recent changes to EU food legislation focus on the safety of the food chain and the provision of information to maintain consumer confidence in the food supply. Changes in legislation on the hygiene of foodstuffs came into force in 2006 and overall responsibility rests with the food business to meet these requirements. This training course aims to provide comprehensive coverage of the principles and application of food legislation. It will explain how to identify and keep up to date with relevant legislation.

Those working in technical, quality, research & development or marketing areas. This training course will be of benefit to those who need an introduction to food legislation and those with responsibility for ensuring food products meet legislative requirements. It will also be of interest to those wishing to keep up-to-date or increase their awareness of food legislation.
Course Content
This 1-day training workshop is interactive and covers the following topics:-
- The process of making and enforcing food legislation
- National Acts, Regulations and Codes of Practice
- The application of the EU General Food Law Regulation 178/2002
- Food safety & hygiene legislation
- Review of the traceability requirement
- Product withdrawal and recall
- Overview of food labelling legislation
Course Tutors
The training course will be delivered by personnel from the Ashtown Research Centre and the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.
Assessment / Certification
Assessment is by means of a short written examination and submission of project work within six weeks following the completion of the course. A FETAC Certificate – Food Legislation is awarded on successful completion of the course.
Grants
The Ashtown Food Research Centre is a FÁS registered training organisation and is recognised by Enterprise Ireland and other national organisations. Funding may be available for the course. Please contact us for details.
