Teagasc - The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority

Curriculum and Quality Assurance Unit

Agricultural education, training and lifelong learning play a major role in building and maintaining Ireland’s competitiveness. To meet the needs of learners (young entrants and adult farmers), it is essential that Teagasc offers a suite of programmes/courses that are accessible, relevant, of high quality and status, attract awards from the awarding bodies and have national and international currency.

The Teagasc Curriculum and Quality Assurance Unit works with stakeholders (e.g., learners, farmers, Teagasc staff, employers, awarding bodies, etc.) in developing and implementing effective programmes and in providing a leadership and support service for staff delivering training programmes.

Role of the Unit

The Curriculum and Quality Assurance Unit, one of the five business units within the Education and Development Directorate, is charged with ensuring that Teagasc training and provision meets the needs of learners, the agricultural industry and the awarding bodies. Having developed the programmes, the Curriculum and Quality Assurance Unit has responsibility for ensuring that the delivery of the approved programmes, by staff in the Education and Development, Advisory and Food Research Directorates, comply with the Teagasc Quality Assurance System for education and training provision.

Contacts

The Curriculum and Quality Assurance Unit is a small but pivotal Unit within the Education and Development Directorate with a staff complement of six.
