March 2009 ACA Online
Teagasc eCollege is accepting applications for the first 2009 Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture Online, which is scheduled to begin in March 2009.

Teagasc eCollege will retain on file ACA Online applications received after 10 June 2008 unless applicants email ecollege@teagasc.ie requesting return of their application pack.

Eligibility for Course
Applicants for this course:
• Must have an existing Level 6 or higher non-farming qualification
• Must be a resident in the island of Ireland for the duration of the course
• Must have access to a farm for the duration of course in order to develop proficiency in farm tasks, and complete farm based assignments and projects. Details of this farm should be submitted on the course application form
• Must have access to all farm details on the nominated farm and are expected to spend at least two days per week on this farm and to be involved in the farm operation and management
Eligibility for Benefits
Please contact your local Teagasc education officer to check if you are eligible for benefits (Stamp Duty Relief, Installation Aid, etc) and if the Level 6 FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture for Non-Agricultural Award Holders course is the appropriate training to meet your training requirements for benefits.
Course Duration
This course offered by the Teagasc eCollege extends over an 18 month period. Specific dates will be distributed to successful applicants in advance of the start of the course.
Course Content
The course is composed of mandatory modules and elective modules. The main components of the Advanced Certificate in Agriculture for non-farming Level 6 award holders are:
• 200 hours of formal coursework and practical skills training
• Maintenance of a Home Farm Involvement Diary during the first six months
• Participation in 8 discussion group meetings as a member of a discussion group
• An enterprise management project during the final 12 months on the course
• Maintenance of a Management Practice Diary while involved in the management of the home farm during the final 12 months
• Achievement of four proficiency skills modules
On successful completion of the course students are awarded the FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Agriculture.
Location
Students will be required to attend an agricultural college or Teagasc centre for at least 20 days for workshops, practical days, discussion group meetings and proficiency skills tests. Please note that the applicant’s address as furnished on the course application form will be used as the basis for allocating a student to their nearest agricultural college/centre.
Computer Access and Skills
Students must access an online system throughout the course for learner support and completion of some assessments. Therefore, students must posses a basic level of IT skills to ECDL level. Competency in internet and email is required. Students must also have access to a web enabled computer and printing facilities for the course duration.
Application Process
Complete applications only will be accepted.
Places will be offered on a first come first served basis. A limited number of places will be available on this course.
Students will be informed in writing one month before the start of course whether or not they have been offered a place on the course.
The course fee is not refundable after the start of the course.
A complete application will consist of:
- A fully completed application form
- The non-refundable payment of €2,000 (subject to approval by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food) in the form of cheque, bank draft or postal order made payable to Teagasc
- The applicant’s birth certificate
- A copy of applicant’s third level qualification (transcript of results or parchment)
- 2 passport photographs of applicant
