What is an eCollege?
The Teagasc eCollege coordinates the development and running of on-line courses within Teagasc. Online or elearning involves the use of a website on the Internet which facilitates communication between students and tutors. This web based learning is combined with practical training sessions for skills in various Teagasc centres.
How does an on-line course work?
The Teagasc eCollege provides an online learning environment, in association with Carmarthenshire College in Wales. This system is used to manage and support learners, with Teagasc workbooks used as course material. Students have to submit assignments and answer questions online to complete the course. The eTutors are mainly Teagasc college teachers, education officers and advisors who have been trained in the use of this system. Click here for course details.
What do you need?
Students need access to a computer with an internet connection and also must have basic computer skills (ECDL level) to complete any online course.
Do I need to be on-line at a particular time on a particular day?
No. Within a two week period students have certain tasks to complete, the time of day these are completed is up to the student.
Do I need broadband?
No, a standard dial up connection will be more than adequate.
