Update on Animal Movement Permits

Issued 6thMarch 2001

Teagasc has reported that by this afternoon its 82 offices have issued over 3,200 movement permits to farmers since the permit system came into effect on Monday (March, 5th).

The permit system is exclusively for animals going direct from farms to meat plants. All animal movement has been banned since 6.00pm, Saturday, March 3rd.

The biggest demand was from Cork, where 485 permits were issued while in Dublin just 11 farmers sought permits.

Teagasc has again stressed that movement permits are farmer specific. It is not permissible for animals from more than one farm to be transported in the one vehicle.

Teagasc has also reminded farmers to get a Booking Number from the meat plant before contacting the Teagasc office for a Permit Number.
