World Names for Teagasc Dairy Conference

Denis Brosnan, Managing Director of the Kerry Group and Marise James, leading executive in the New Zealand dairy industry are among the speakers at the Teagasc National Dairy Conference which takes place in the Gleneagle Hotel, Killarney on Thursday, 22nd November, from 10.00am to 4.45pm.

The conference, which is expected to be attended by over 800 farmers, brings together the leading national and international expertise on milk production, processing and marketing.

Denis Brosnan, who steps down as Managing Director of the Kerry Group at the end of the year, will give his vision of the future for dairy farming while Marise James will report current trends and future prospects for dairy farming in New Zealand.

The conference will also feature the full array of Teagasc research and advisory expertise.

  • Dermot McCarthy, Teagasc Chief Dairy Adviser, will outline the key determinants of profitable dairy farming while advisers, Gerard Courtney and New Zealander, Ken Bartlett, who is currently working with Teagasc will report on the success of the joint Teagasc/Kerry Group dairy development programme.
  • Leading Moorepark researchers, John Mee and Pat Dillon will give the latest research information on dairy fertility problems and on new breeding strategies. Eddie O'Callaghan, also of Teagasc Moorepark and one of the world's leading experts on milking equipment will also address the conference.
  • The full story on competitive winter feeding systems will be given by Padraig O'Kiely of Teagasc Grange and progressive dairy farmer, Donal Brosnan, who farms near Killarney will give his own personal view on the future threats and opportunities for dairy farmers.
