Conference Examines Prospects for Liquid Milk

Issued 26th April 2002

The prospects for liquid milk producers is one of the key topics for discussion at the Teagasc National Liquid Milk Conference which takes place in Goffs, Kill, Co Kildare on Thursday, 16 May, from 2.00pm to 8.00pm.

Producers of manufacturing milk have already suffered a drop in price. The key question for the 3,000 farmers who produce 150 million gallons of milk annually for human consumption is will the price for their product also decline.

Those attending the Teagasc conference will have the opportunity to hear the views of Pat Brophy, Chief Executive of Glanbia Dairies, the largest purchaser of liquid milk in the country. They will also get the perspective on the position in Northern Ireland from leading commentator, James Campbell who is Northern Editor of the Farmers Journal.

The conference will also hear the latest technology for profitable liquid milk production from scientists and specialists in Teagasc and Northern Ireland. Farmers will be particularly interested in hearing leading liquid milk producer Joe Maxwell from Kinnegad, Co Westmeath tell his story while, Teagasc Chief Environment Adviser, Sean Regan, will give a detailed outline of EU environmental regulations and their impact at farm level.

The conference is sponsored by Bank of Ireland and all liquid milk producers are welcome to attend.
