Teagasc Appoints New Director of Agricultural Research

Teagasc has announced the appointment of Dr Seamus Crosse as Director of Operations with responsibility for managing the organisation's research programmes in agriculture and rural development.

Currently Head of Dairy Production Research with Teagasc at Moorepark Research Centre, Co Cork, Seamus Crosse will be responsible for the management and further development of Teagasc's extensive research programme on livestock, tillage, horticulture, agri-food economics, rural development and environmental protection. The programme is operated from seven research centres. A further two centres specialise in food research and development.

A native of Donaskeigh, Co Tipperary, Seamus Crosse has more than 20 years experience in conducting and managing research programmes, nationally and internationally. A graduate in agriculture from University College, Dublin, he holds a PhD from the National University of Ireland and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from University College, Cork. He also spent a year on sabbatical study at Cornell Univerity, New York.

As a research scientist he was at the forefront of many of the innovations which have emanated from the Teagasc dairy research programme at Moorepark. In the early 1990s he also spent two years as manager of a newly developed research centre in Ethiopa. He has been Head of Moorepark Research Centre for the past five years.

He will take up his new position in August and will be based at the Teagasc Head Office in Dublin. He replaces Pat Gleeson, who retired earlier this year.
