11 CAO Courses on Offer

Eleven third level courses in agriculture and horticulture, provided jointly by Teagasc colleges and institute of technology partnerships, are available on the 2003 Central Applications Office (CAO) list.
This is the third year of application to the CAO for certificate and diploma courses in agriculture and horticulture. These courses provide the ideal training for an outdoor career and also give participants the option to progress right up to university degree level, creating new opportunities for young people not just in farming but in wider areas, such as landscape gardening and amenity horticulture.
Last year the number of students participating in third level certificate and diploma courses in agriculture and horticulture increased by 50% compared to 2001, indicating the attractiveness of these courses to young people.

Agriculture

As well as careers in farming, graduates of this course can aspire to jobs in farm management, environmental management and monitoring, agri-industry, sales and marketing and quality control.
