Teagasc Demonstration on Eco-Tillage

24 February, 2003

The latest research results on Eco-tillage will be displayed at a special field event being held by Teagasc at Oak Park Research Centre, on Wednesday 5 th March.

Research at Oak Park has shown that the new reduced cultivation "Eco-tillage" system can give wheat and barley yields at least as good as the conventional ploughing system. There are also indications that it can result in increased earthworm numbers, less aphids and a reduced level of some diseases.

Farmers attending the Oak Park event can compare winter cereal crops sown last autumn under the "Eco-tillage" and ploughing systems. They can also see demonstrations on "Eco-tillage" and get expert advice on the application of the system at farm level.

The demonstration starts at 2pm and all tillage farmers are invited.
