Teagasc Runs National Beef Open Day
17 June, 2003
A national beef open day is being run by Teagasc at Grange Research Centre, Co. Meath on Thursday 26 June, starting at 11am.
The event is aimed primarily at farmers who are members of discussion groups co-ordinated by Teagasc. However, all beef producers will be welcome.
The open day will enable producers to see the management blueprints developed by Teagasc for the autumn and spring calving suckler herds at Grange. Low cost wintering systems, including stand-off pads, earth bank tanks and reed beds, which are the subject of intensive research by Teagasc at Grange, will also be demonstrated.
Leading Teagasc beef researchers and advisory specialists will give the latest information on beef breeding and the results of Grange research on crimping and whole crop cereals will also be outlined. Animal health will also feature prominently, with advice on controlling diseases such as pneumonia, BVD and leptospirosis.
The physical and financial performance of the 40 beef monitor farms, which are being monitored by Teagasc, will be unveiled and the key messages which these results have for all beef farmers will be highlighted. Visitors will also hear the results of practical projects undertaken by members of beef discussion groups during the past year.
Bus transport to the event is being arranged by a number of Teagasc offices. Farmers wising to avail of this should make immediate contact with their local Teagasc office.
