Open Day on Top Dairy Farm

30 April 2004

Farmers from all parts of the country are invited to an open day on the award winning farm run by Jim Delahunty at Carrig, Binn, Co Tipperary on Thursday, 13 May from 11am to 4pm.

Jim Delahunty took the top national award in the Protein 350 competition run by Teagasc in association with ACC Bank and the Farmers Journal.

“A milk protein level of over 3.5%, milk yields of 1330 litres (1400 gallons) per cow and costs of 13c/litre are some of the remarkable features of this exceptional farm”, said Michael Hogan, Teagasc Adviser in Tipperary.

“The key elements of the Teagasc recipe for profitable dairy farming after the Fischler reforms are being applied by Jim Delahunty. His excellent management skills are resulting in additional profit of at least €300 per cow,” added Michael Hogan.

In addition to his highly productive dairy herd, Jim Delahunty also runs an efficient beef enterprise, which will also be on show at the open day.

The Delahunty farm is located about three miles from Birr on the N52 Birr to Borrisokane Road.
