Minister Announces Details of International Food Conference

Details of an international food conference taking place in Dublin on 17th and 18th June have been announced by the Minister for Agriculture and Food, Joe Walsh.

The conference will bring together the world’s leading experts in food technology, nutrition and consumption trends. Called ‘Thinking Beyond Tomorrow’ it is being held as part of Ireland’s Presidency of the EU and will feature keynote addresses by the Minister for Agriculture and Food, Joe Walsh and David Byrne, EU Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection.

Organised by Teagasc, in association with UCD, UCC and the Department of Agriculture and Food, it will feature the most up to date information worldwide on functional foods, probiotics, food safety and emerging trends in food consumption. Among the speakers will be Lord Haskins, former Chairman of the multinational company, Northern Foods and Peadar Hegarty, Group Innovation Director with Glanbia.

The conference will also be addressed by some of the foremost food scientists and nutrition experts from the United States, UK and Europe. The programme also includes Irish experts, Dr. Paul Ross from the Teagasc Dairy Products Research Centre at Moorepark and Professor Michael Gibney from Trinity College.
