Impact of New Policy Dominates Teagasc Ploughing Display
20 September 2004
Teagasc will again be a major exhibitor at the National Ploughing Championships which take place at Tullow, Co Carlow on Tuesday 28, Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 September.
Adapting to the dramatic changes in EU agricultural policy, which come into effect in January 2005, will dominate the Teagasc display.
More than 100 of the organisation’s leading specialists and advisers will be available over the three days to discuss with farmers the best strategies for beef, sheep, dairying and tillage.
Expert advice will also be provided on the new concession whereby farmers can claim their full decoupled payment and plant up to 50% of their land in forestry. The opportunities in horticulture will also be featured and Teagasc specialists will hold advisory clinics on environmental issues, with expert information on the likely impact of the Nitrate Directive and comprehensive advice of REPS 3.
The full array of Teagasc training expertise will also be there to offer guidance on training for careers in agriculture, horticulture and the wider agri-industry.
Tillage Symposium
To facilitate tillage farmers attending the Ploughing Championships, Teagasc will run a tillage symposium on Wednesday, 29 September, starting at 7pm. The venue is the Dolmen Hotel, Carlow. Teagasc tillage specialists and senior officials from the Department of Agriculture and Food will give details on the operation of the new tillage policy and its implications at farm level.
