Teagasc Conference for Training Hosts

8 October 2004

A special training conferences is being run by Teagasc for farmers, horticulturists, foresters and agri-business companies who provide vital work experience for upwards of 1,000 students who participate in Teagasc training programmes each year.

Sponsored by ACCBank, the conference is being run in the Abbey Court Hotel, Nenagh on October 26 and 27. It will be addressed by a distinguished panel of experts, including John Lonergan, Governor of Mountjoy Prison as well as human resources and work organisation consultants, leading farmers and Teagasc specialists.

Announcing details of the conference, conference co-ordinator, Liam Myles, said effective communications in the workplace will dominate the two day conference.

“While it may surprise many to see a prison governor addressing a Teagasc training conference, John Lonergan has a wealth of experience in effective communications and his contribution will stimulate farmers, horticulturists, foresters and agri-business managers, not just in dealing with students but in the day to day running of their businesses”, said Liam Myles.

“Teagasc is indebted to the many people who make their facilities and expertise available to participants in our training programmes. This conference is aimed at enhancing the role which they play in shaping the next generation of the agricultural and agri-business workforce,” he added.

Paddy Horgan, National Agri-Business Manager with ACCBank, said work experience on commercial farms, horticultural and forestry units and agri-business companies is an integral component of Teagasc training.

“As a major investor in the industry, we are delighted to be associated with a conference which focuses on the best possible training for those who will guide the industry over the next twenty to thirty years,” he said.

Training hosts wishing to attend the two-day conference should contact Teagasc at 01 8459000 or email: amcdonnell@hq.teagasc.ie
