Teagasc Dairy Conferences Confront the Big Issues

8 November 2004

A leading panel of international speakers will address the Teagasc National Dairy Conferences which take place on 17 and 18 November.

The conferences, which are being held in the Rochestown Park Hotel, Cork on Wednesday, 17 November and the Slieve Russell Hotel, Ballyconnell, Co. Cavan on Thursday, 18 November, will address the key policy, production and marketing challenges facing the dairy industry over the coming years.

Among the speakers at the Cork conference will be John Malone, Secretary General of the Department of Agriculture and Food and Dr. Noel Cawley, Managing Director of the Irish Dairy Board. The Cavan conference will be addressed by newly-elected MEP, Mairead McGuinness and Aaron Forde, Chief Executive of Connacht Gold.

Both conferences which will run from 9.30am to 4.30pm, will also be addressed by leading Teagasc dairy experts on managing expansion of the dairy enterprise and on the adoption of the critical technologies to cut costs, improve milk quality and boost profit. Dairy farmers from Tipperary and Cavan will also tell their own stories on how they expanded their businesses through the establishment of milk productions partnerships.

The contribution of well known financial consultant and television presenter, Eddie Hobbs, on the important issue of money management is likely to engender strong interest. The conferences will also be addressed by scientists from the US and Northern Ireland on issues of particular relevance to Irish dairy farming.

Farmers attending the conferences are advised to book in advance.
