Teagasc Announces Review of Education and Training
10 November 2004
Teagasc has announced that it is undertaking an in-depth review of its education and training programmes.
The review is being carried out against the background of the major changes taking place in agricultural policy and the impact these changes will have on the education and training needs of young entrants to agriculture, horticulture and the agri-food sector as well as the on-going training needs of adult farmers.
It is being carried our under the auspices of the Teagasc Education and Training Forum, which is chaired by Professor John Coolahan of NUI Maynooth and includes representatives of the major education providers, government departments and rural organisations.
Speaking at the announcement of the review, Donal Carey, Director of Education and Development Services with Teagasc, said it would play a key role in shaping the organisation’s education and training programmes over the next decade.
“Continuing changes in the structure of farming and rural areas combined with changing lifestyle choices will require new courses and new methods of delivery. Teagasc is committed to responding to these new demands and looks forward to acting on the outcome of the review”, said Donal Carey.
