Teagasc to Continue Bailieboro Advisory Service

Mr. Pat Boyle, Head of Teagasc Advisory Service, speaking after the Teagasc Authority Meeting to-day (Wednesday 1s t June, 2005) said that Teagasc will continue to provide a comprehensive advisory service from Bailieboro in Cavan.

Following a review of the requirements of farmers needs in the area Teagasc will provide a dairy, drystock or reps adviser to assist farmers three mornings per week from 9.30 a.m. to 1 p.m. or by appointment. For the present this service will continue to be provided from the existing office in Bailieboro.

Continuing, Mr. Boyle said that the situation will be kept under review and the scope and extent of the advisory and training services provided by Teagasc will reflect the demand in the area.

Mr. Boyle said that Teagasc is totally committed to implementing its advisory and training programmes across all of Cavan and to ensure all farmers are fully supported in their farm enterprise development and training needs.

He said Teagasc is continuing its national rationalisation and re-orientation programme to achieve critical mass in terms of numbers of staff and backup support. This process will ensure enhanced clerical and IT support for advisers, which will give the organisation greater efficiency and efficacy thus providing an overall improved service for farmers and rural dwellers as well as better value for tax payers money. As a result of this rationalisation Ballyhaise office is being enhanced to meet the present and future needs of a modern advisory service.

In conclusion Mr. Boyle reiterated Teagasc’s commitment to the farmers of East Cavan and stressed that they will continue to receive an advisory service commensurate with their needs and demands.
