Teagasc Moorepark host major International Grassland Conference
Teagasc Moorepark are holding a major International Grassland Conference in the Silver Spring Hotel in Cork from 3r d-6t h July 2005. The conference entitled “Utilisation of grazed grass in temperate animals systems”, is staged in conjunction with the XX International Grassland Conference which takes place in University College Dublin from 27t h June to 1s t July 2005.
Speaking at the launch of the conference in Teagasc Moorepark today (Tuesday 14t h June), Dr. Pat Dillon, Head of Production Research at Moorepark said the conference will be of interest to grassland and ruminant researchers, Teagasc and commercial advisors as well as leading dairy and cattle farmers.
Continuing Dr. Dillon said, “Leading researchers from Ireland, Great Britain, Argentina, China, Australia, France, USA, The Netherlands, New Zealand and Switzerland will deliver papers on how producers can maximise the utilization of grazed grass in temperate animal systems.”
Running parallel with the 22 oral presentations there will be 90 poster presentations. The final day of the conference will involve a discussion session led by eminent dairy farmers and researchers setting out the challenges for grassland farming into the future.
The four-day event will also include a visit to Moorepark Research Centre and a leading dairy farmer. In Moorepark delegates will see at first hand new research information allowing dairy farmers to develop systems of milk production capable of delivering satisfactory returns in a lower milk price scenario. The visit to a nearby leading dairy farmer will allow international scientists to see a highly efficient grass based dairy farm in operation.
Referring to the sponsors Dr. Dillon said that organising this conference has been a major undertaking for Teagasc Moorepark. However without the generous financial support from the following sponsors it would not be possible to present this conference: AIB, Dairygold Co-Op, Dairy Master Ltd., FBD Trust, Glanbia, Gold Crop Ltd and Kerry-Agribusiness.
“Their generous contributions are very much appreciated”, concluded Dr. Dillon.
