Teagasc Announce National Dairy Conferences

The  two Teagasc National Dairy Conferences will take place this year on November 16th and 17th.

The Ard Ri Hotel in Waterford is the venue for the conference on Wednesday,  November 16th , while the Slieve Russell Hotel in Cavan will host the conference on Thursday  November 17th.

At the announcement of the dates of the conferences, Pat Boyle, Head of Advisory Directorate in Teagasc, said that the conferences will address the competitiveness of the Irish dairy industry. The opportunities provided by the Single Farm Payment Scheme for dairy farmers will also be discussed.

Mat Ryan, Dairy Programme Manager in Teagasc, said that high Economic Breeding Index (EBI) cows and efficient grassland management are the keys to dairying profits.

Pressure on milk prices reinforces the need to have high EBI herds and cost efficient feeding programmes,” he said.

He added that research and advisory staff from Teagasc and other national and international speakers will deal, in detail, with increasing competition and profitability on dairy farms in a reducing price scenario.

“I urge every dairy farmer with an eye to their future to plan to attend either of these important conferences,” concluded Mr. Ryan.
