Teagasc has Prominent Exhibit at Kildare Growers Show

Teagasc has a major involvement at the Kildare Growers Show taking place at the Punchestown Event Centre in Co Kildare to-day (Thursday 27 July) and tomorrow (Friday 28 July, 2006).

The event is a national showcase for the Irish nursery stock sector, with a large number of exhibits by nursery stock growers and service providers.

The Teagasc exhibition features the latest research and advisory information on stock production, as well as information and guidance on training for careers in the nursery sector. Research, advisory and training specialists are available over the two days to meet with people attending the show.

Nursery stock owners and managers have a unique opportunity to discuss the recently launched Teagasc Nursery Stock Profit Monitor Programme with Teagasc specialists. The programme is aimed at helping nurseries understand and improve their businesses through understanding costs, returns and productivity. This programme gives nursery owners and managers the opportunity to discuss and learn from other nurseries. To date, a number of nurseries have participated in the programme and feedback has been extremely positive.

The stand also features results of non-chemical weed control trials. With the disappearance of many pesticides the importance of weed control using alternatives to chemicals and integrated pest management systems will be of huge significance in the years ahead.

Following the recent appointment of Helen Grogan as Plant Pathologist at Teagasc Kinsealy Research and Development Centre, Dublin the diagnostic and full range of Teagasc services provided by the nursery stock team is being launched at the show.
