Dr Mike Ellis, University of Illinois, Chicago is the guest speaker at the three Teagasc Annual Pigs Farmer Conferences taking place in Cork, Kilkenny and Longford next week.
Dr Ellis will deliver two papers at each of the three conferences. The first paper looks at global pig meat production and how Irish producers can compete in the world market. The second paper looks at the effect of group size and stocking rate on growing finishing pigs.
Other issues being addressed at the conferences are; manure and slurry treatment, using feed efficiently for growing pigs, herd recording, electricity use on farms, and temperature control.
The first of these conferences for pig producers takes place on Monday next, 16 October at Teagasc Moorepark Research Conference Centre, Fermoy, County Cork.
The conference on Tuesday 17 October is being held in the Newpark Hotel, Kilkenny, and on Wednesday 18 October, it moves to the Longford Arms Hotel, Longford.
