Teagasc - The Irish Agriculture and Food Development Authority

Positive Response to New Teagasc Advisory Service

Pat Boyle, head of Teagasc advisory service, said: "We received a very positive response to the new Teagasc advisory service 'For Better Farming' from our customers over the three days of the national ploughing championships. Listening to our farmer customers, it is clear that there is confidence in the dairy and tillage sectors, but both the beef and sheep sectors face significant challenges. Our new service, with greater emphasis on the Business and Technology Programme, is tailored to help our clients meet these challenges."

The new Teagasc advisory service, which has been rolled out across the country, concentrates on four programme areas - Business and Technology, Good Farm Practice, Rural Development and Adult Training. The Business and Technology Programme will deliver cutting-edge technology to commercial farmers.

Continuing the Teagasc head of advisory, Pat Boyle said: "The feedback we received over the last week, has confirmed a huge level of interest among farmers in the recently announced REPS 4 Scheme. Our good farm practice advisors will work to satisfy this level of demand over the coming months."

Concluding he said: "There was particular interest among dairy farmers in the expansion options outlined by Teagasc dairy specialists, as farmers prepare for future change in Europe's milk policy."
