Information for Course Participants of Adult 100 Hours and 80 Hours Courses

Eligibility for Benefits

Please check out (eg from your local Teagasc office) if you are eligible for benefits (Stamp Duty Relief, Installation Aid, etc) and if the 100 hours and 80 hours courses are the appropriate training to meet the training requirements for benefits.

Following changes announced in the 2007 Finance Bill individuals with Level 6 or equivalent non-agricultural qualifications, requiring 100 hours and 80 hours FETAC certificates, must fully meet the current stamp duty education requirements by 31 March 2008, ie they must have been certified for the 100 hours and 80 hours certificates and have satisfactorily completed two years of their third level programme by 31 March 2008.

Those who commenced the first year of third level studies in 2006 cannot qualify for relief by completing the 100 and 80 hours courses. This also applies to those who will not have completed their FÁS apprenticeship by 31 March 2008.

Entry Requirements for the 100 Hours Course

Applicants who are 23 years of age or older are eligible to apply for a place on a 100 hours course. Applicants who have successfully completed the first year of a course leading to an award at Level 6 or higher on the National Framework of Qualifications in 2006 are also eligible to apply for a place on a 100 hours course.

Entry Requirements for the 80 Hours Course

Only applicants who have completed the 100 hours course, or who are exempted from the 100 hours course, are eligible to apply for a place on an 80 hours course. The 80 hours course cannot be completed in advance of completing the 100 hours course.

On-Line Courses

Students must have good computer skills (ECDL or equivalent), an email address, and have access to a web enabled computer. Students will have to attend three practical training sessions as part of the course. These practical training sessions will take place on Fridays and full details will be forwarded at the beginning of the course.

Workbooks

There is an additional charge of €60 for course workbooks for the 100 hours course and €45 for the 80 hours course.

Booking Your Place on a Course

You are advised to book your place on the course by sending a completed Application Form and paying the full fee to the appropriate college or Teagasc office. Places will be offered on a first come first served basis. As the fee for a course is not refundable you should ensure that you will be able to attend before you book for a course.

Attendance

You will be required to attend for the full duration of the course as there is on-going assessment during the course and at the end of the course.

Course Requirements and Rules

  1. Please bring clean disinfected wellington boots and clean work/rainproof clothing as these will be needed for practicals and farm visits
  2. Course participants will be required to attend classes, practicals and field trips. In addition participants will have to carry out assignments, projects (eg farm plan) and study for assessments
  3. Participants will be required to comply with timetable, domestic and other regulations set down in the Participants Handbook
  4. Misconduct on the course may result in exclusion from the course without refund of fee.

Note

Courses are offered subject to sufficient applications to justify putting on courses.
